Butters is a 5 year old neutered male cat. He is the costliest of all our cats..His start in life was the worst of stories. It started with a post on Facebook by one of our daughters best friends. She had went to the docks to meet her husband's shrimp boat(he had been out in the ocean for over a week). While standing there looking around she noticed a grocery bag up against one of the pylons and what looked like a kittens foot hanging onto it. At that moment the boat was docking so she rushed her husband to get the bag out of the water. So he took the anchor, knocked one of the boards up and was able to reach down and pull the bag out of the water. In the bag were 3 kittens about 4 weeks old All alive. She brought them home and cleaned them up then posted on Facebook begging for someone to take them.Someone took one and we took the other 2.We named them Pumpkin and Butters.Apparently Pumpkin had something underlying wrong with him because he just died suddenly 2 weeks after we got them.Butters does have some type of brain injury from being underwater too long.He also sneezes a lot and has the food allergy. For the first year I had to bring him to get steroid shots every 3 months.Butter's acts out and bullies the other cats so he spends a lot of time in mom's bedroom.
We had a horrible incident happen with Butters back in August 2024.We have Terminix come in every month to spray.I always go ahead of Grayson and spray water/vinegar throughout the rooms to run all our cats to the outdoor enclosure.I gave Grayson the go ahead and he sprayed(This was 4:30 on a Friday afternoon).Well fast forward to Monday morning I had just finished feeding the cats breakfast and was washing dishes when Butters comes staggering out from behind the furnace and falls over.At first we were not sure what was wrong with him so I picked him up layed him in a cage and took off to call the vet.I was put on hold so I kept running through my head what could have happened and it dawned on me he was poisoned. So when the receptionist came back on the line I told her Butters had been poisoned and she proceeded to tell me to call poison control. That might have worked on the first night but we are now into the third day.So I went back downstairs and told Mom what they said and checked on him. When I put my hand on him he felt hard I picked his back leg up and half his body came up .So I grabbed a carrier, put him in it and took off driving not sure to where but i had to try.I headed up 220 north until I came to Veterinary Services.I honestly thought when I got there I would find him already dead. However when I opened the car door he lifted his head up and looked me in the eyes.I remember saying to him Butters I am going to fight for you and I need you to fight too. So I rushed through the door and I will never forget the response before they even knew who I was they had already taken him to the back and started his IV.They ran his bloodwork which came back his kidney function was a 0 but Dr.Torres wasted no time in saying I can fix this.So Butters spent 3 days there on a IV.When i came to see him on the third day he jumped up and started climbing the cage to get to me.He was still not eating so I told Dr. Torres he did his part now it was time for us to do ours.So I brought Butters home and we force fed him for 3 weeks and he finally started eating on his own.
